We will begin the journey this October 2011 to create our very own Organic Farm.

Organic farming is not just farming without chemical fertilisers and insect spraying. It’s the whole way the garden is managed so that it’s sustainable and in harmony with the environment.

BVH Kitchen will be using natural vegetable and fruit waste to naturally fertilise the organic garden which will also cut down on kitchen waste. This natural fertilisation will improve the fertility and level of organic matter in the soil and help prevent soil erosion, while conserving energy and water. Many people also believe that organic food has a better taste and flavour.

Naturally these organic Vegetable/Herb/Fruit will be used for our patients’ and V-café staff meals.

Local Tomatoes

 

This bright red fruit contains the carotenoid, Lycopene, which has a known role in decreasing the risk of prostate cancer.

Sweet Potatoes

Yellow-orange vegetable contains carotenoids which acts as an anti-oxidant and protects against cancer and enhances the immune system.

Potatoes

Starchy vegetable which is a good source of energy.

Serai (Lemon grass)

A natural low sodium spice used in South-East Asian cooking.

Mint

A strongly flavoured herb with a clean refreshing taste. It works well with potatoes, bulgar and rice.

Parsley

Splendid, versatile herb with a fresh, slightly spicy flavour. Contains coumarins which inhibit the growth of cancers.

Pandan Leaves

Used as a local flavouring. It works well with rice.

“Liang Cha”

Great “cooling” tea for people with sore throats. Also contains catechins and is a powerful antioxidant.

Red and green. Great spicy flavouring. Contains vitamin C.

Fragrant citrus fruit with a distinctive tang. Adds zest to food and contains vitamin C.
