On 13th July 2011 at 10am, a group of Teaching Scholars and Interns from Bowen Secondary School visited Bright Vision Hospital. The group was led by Jane Voon, the School Staff Developer to better understand the services provided by Bright Vision Hospital. The BVH Community Engagement Team hosted the group during the one and a half hour session. During the session, Ms Choo Shiu Ling, Director of CEO’s Office engaged the group in an interactive exchange on the operation and funding of a community hospital, as well as the healthcare needs of the elderly sick in the community. The Teaching Scholars and Interns had an enthusiastic Q&A session before they toured around the hospital. Below is the thank you note, including the thoughts and reflections the group had after their visit to BVH. By BVH Community Engagement Team
Bright Vision Community Hospital – Appreciation of Thanks To: Ms Choo Shiu Ling We would like to thank you for hosting us and bringing us around Bright Vision Community Hospital today (13th July 2011). It was indeed an eye-opener for all of us and we truly appreciate your hospitality and your time. Following the visit, we had a mini-reflection session and below were some of the learning points that we took away after the visit: We were very heartened to know that a group of very dedicated nurses and doctors are providing a high level of quality care despite the stigma associated with chronic patients. In addition, we learnt more about the management of a community hospital. We did not realize that such a tough balancing act was involved and it must be difficult to provide the level of care patients need despite the many challenges the staff faced. We were surprised about the palliative care services that Bright Vision offers as they take into account the existential issues surrounding terminally ill patients such as family counseling etc. It is indeed very thoughtful of the hospital to look after the needs of the family members of these patients. It was great to know that Community hospitals contribute so much to society by complementing the main stream hospitals. Once again, we would like to thank you for the informative sharing session that you gave us this morning. More importantly, we thank you for your commitment and love that you have dedicated to the job.
