An Event with Heart at Heartland Mall

By Community Engagement Team

Bright Vision Hospital held its very first Charity Bazaar to raise funds for the elderly sick and needy patients on 31st July 2011 (Sunday) at Heartland Mall. Running from 10am to 8pm and involving 17 stalls and over 50 volunteers, the fund-raising event was a cheerful and lively one.

The venue was proudly sponsored by Heartland Retail Holdings Pte Ltd. Some well-known brands that supported the bazaar by setting up stalls were Mr. Bean, Bodynits, Donuts Factory, Unisoy and Graine. On top of that, we also engaged Loving Hut and Nature Vegetarian Delight to sell hearty vegetarian healthy food and beverages. Eager to interact with the crowds, Butterfly Park was invited to bring in their collection of insects out of Sentosa for the first time. Visitors were allowed to touch and see them for free, at the same time to take pictures with them.

One of the Sgcares volunteers came in with a fishing game stall that attracted most of the children. Some Bowen Secondary School students and artists from Shicheng Calligraphy and Seal Carving Society volunteered to do Chinese Calligraphy on the spot and sold their work for charity.

To attract more interest, BVH set up its very own stall to sell donated items. This included ceramic pottery donated by local artist San See Piau. Souvenirs which were hand-made by BVH patients were given as tokens of appreciation to those who  made direct donations.

A total of 55 volunteers from BVH, regular volunteers and Sgcares were involved in ensuring the overall success of the event. With three roles available  as stall attendants, cashiers and marshals, volunteers were able to contribute their very best to the event. Mdm Salimah, the BVH Nursing Director, stood at the BVH donation booth for the whole day to promote public awareness of the healthcare needs of BVH, was so happy with this special way of celebrating her birthday.

Ultimately, the heartfelt efforts of the volunteers and sponsors helped raise SGD10,800 through this Charity Bazaar.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed their time and efforts to the success of the Bright Vision Hospital Charity Bazaar 2011!
