The BVH staff were joined by 35 students from Hougang Secondary School on 27 October 2011 (Thursday) for a special afternoon tea held at Yen Pei Hall. This initiative is an effort by Hougang Secondary School to show appreciation to BVH staff for looking after and caring for the patients. During this “Caregivers Appreciation Day” event, the students from Class Sec 3E4 brought along fruit jellies they had prepared and distributed them to BVH staff. Senior Dietician, Mary-ann Chiam also arranged for a special tea of delicious vegetarian fried bee hoon and juicy apples. While enjoying the food, the staff were entertained with a variety of performances put up by the students. Class representative, Wang Yidi presenting the song ‘Moonlight’, followed by a group performance of two mandarin pop songs. Student Chan Chee Hong put up a fascinating magic show. The afternoon tea ended with He Chang’s great solo performance. From Tian Jin China, He Chang’s beautiful vocal captivated the audience. At the end of the performance, the students presented notepads personalised with little decorations to all the staff who attended the event. Response to their kind gesture was overwhelming as staff were smiling when they received their notepads. After the performance, the students were given a tour around BVH premises and introduced to the services and care the hospital provides. This gave them a better understanding of the hospital’s services and the needs of the elderly in our community. Some students were enthused to return and volunteer in the future. To show appreciation for the time and efforts put in by the school and students, BVH souvenirs were given to the teachers and students.
